Kang Rinpoche/Paths of souls

The movie Kang Rinpoche is the story of eleven Tibetan’s pilgrimages. These eleven people live in the same village and belong to several different families. The year the story took place was 2014, the horse year of the Tibetan calendar.

Before going out for pilgrimage, a lot of preparation work needs to be done. Pilgrims will make apron from sheepskin. In Tibetan Buddhism, the Year of the Horse is the year of the birth and enlightenment of Shakyamuni, and it is also the birth year of Kang Rinpoche. During this year, the gods will gather in Kang Rinpoche. In normal years, pilgrims come here to go around the mountain, and wash away the sins of their lives. Going around the mountain for twelve times can save the suffering of hell. Going around 108 times people can become a Buddha in this life. In these eleven people, consist of the elderly, the pregnant women, the butchers, and the disabled children, went on their way of pilgrimage. Along the way, they encountered a lot of things is whether big or small, some people were injured by rocks, pregnant women gave birth to children, along the way, they also constantly met locals and other pilgrims.

In the eyes of the ordinary people like me “Kang Rinpoche” is just the name of a mountain, it may be a magnificent mountain, but in the eyes of countless Tibetan Buddhist believers, its significance is far more than that of a mountain. In Tibetan Buddhism They believed that Kang Rinpoche was the dwelling place of God, representing infinite happiness, and that the pilgrimage to mountain Kang Rinpoche on its natal year would increase their merits by multiple times. The Tibetans, including children, pregnant women, butchers, men, women and children, their road of pilgrimage, built the pulse of the movie.
On a year-long pilgrimage, this team of people of different ages they were all persistent. On this road full of suffering and danger, no one have ever hesitated. The devotion of the pilgrims in the film is nothing short of impressive, and the film itself only shows this kind of piety in the original ecology, without deliberate sublimation, without questioning the faith, or even giving too much to the scenery of Tibet. From this perspective, the film is so simple, and the placement of the plot makes the story fuller, but also highlighted the light of the good in their faith.
